How a Choir Helped me Overcome the Hardest Hurdle

Last night I performed at a choir recital.

It was beautiful. Sheer joy. So much love. A circle of singers. Song with lyrics like these:

"I believe in being ready...."

"This is home..."

"I've decided to be grateful....."

Stuff like that.

Soulful, lovely, nourishing.

And........even though I've been singing all my life........it's been mostly at karaoke bars with my husband....in my car with the windows down, (embarrassing my daughter).....while running with earbuds (usually frightening people)....at concerts where I was really screaming the words.......

I'm NOT a trained singer.

***********

So this performance was big for lots of reasons.

(But don't worry, this isn't just about me pursuing some old dream and not being the best and doing it anyway.......)

Because there's something BIGGER.

Last night may have been the first time that I was performing JUST FOR ME.

Don't get me wrong: I do like the thrill of the audience.

I appreciated my friends and family's attendance.

But last night was about MY SHEER JOY.

It didn't really matter what the audience thought. My joy persisted no matter what.

So.......wait for it..........

WHAT IF........you were SO aligned with your work, so full of JOY about what you did..... that the feedback and the money and the clients and the yeses were all SECONDARY. All just a bonus?

What if we were all MUCH LESS ATTACHED to the outcome?

It's really effing hard to SURRENDER that much.

It takes bravery amidst anxiety for me.

But when you do, MAGIC happens.

I've seen it. In business and in life.

And Janelle Orion☀️ (up above) and Larry Kaul's consciousness-raising mastermind helped me get there.

Pretty edgy eh?

But what a beautiful vision to consider.......

Are you doing this already? Have you before? Will you again? Tell me all about it. Because I'm still learning to buld this muscle.

I'm in the business of transformation. All voice levels welcome. Muggles need not apply.
